The Great Weapon Fighter in Neverwinter
By Pinpointerror @ January 9, 2013 at 7:30am

Role: Damage Dealer and Secondary Defender
Some fighters rely on spells, others prefer tricks and illusions. You believe that all encounters can be resolved quickly with the swift swing of a two-handed weapon. The thrill of taking on multiple enemies at once drives you into battle far ahead of your party. And if necessary, you will not hesitate to sacrifice yourself to ensure your party’s survival.

The fearless Great Weapon Fighter in Neverwinter
First to Fight, Last to Retreat
You believe that shields are cumbersome and deter your ability to fight. Your innate instinct allows you to drive your weapon deep into the hearts of your foes with deadly precision and timing. In the heat of battle, your versatile combat ability allows you to perform different roles within the party. While your defender absorbs the brunt of the damage, you fight to protect your other party members from ambush. And if your defender is down, you are the first to absorb incoming damage keeping your allies from harm.

Surrounded? One swift swing will resolve any encounters!
Versatility and Survivability
The Great Weapon Fighter can be effective in any combat situation. Abilities such as Avalanche of Steel can be used to clear crowds with area-of-effect damage when your party is overrun. To gain the upper hand in combat, lead the charge by using your Slam ability to slow enemies allowing your party to finish them with ease. If your party is surrounded, use the mighty battle chant, Roar, to knock groups back for a vital second wind.
In desperate situations, the Great Weapon Fighter can cast Daring Shout to mark nearby enemies – the stronger the enemies, the more defenses he gains to fend them off while his party recovers. Finally, use Sprint, a rechargeable Utility Power, to close the distance on anyone attempting to escape their fate and deal the finishing blow!

Survivability and toughness defines a brave Great Weapon Fighter
The Essential Dungeon Party Member
Versatility and survivability are keys to being an effective Great Weapon Fighter. With devastating damage-dealing ability and survival powers, you will be an essential member of your dungeon party. Stay resolute and lead your party to victory when Neverwinter launches!

This class needs a massive buff.
pisnahuj10 @ Apr 1st, 2013 11:04PM
good job releasing a new class, too bad its underpowered and imbalanced overall. in comparison to other classes, GWF doesnt have that much survivability other than his HP pool. and the damage is a tad bit lower than any other class. the CC ability for this class is minimal, i.e. slow on cleave hit, roar-knockback, and the daily dive. comparing those to. for example control mages or rogues or clerics, i must say im kind of disappointed in the prowess of this class. (from PvP viewpoint)

Holy crap,ppl.. quit yer whining! It's is an awesome looking game. So what if it's not exactly true to the other versions of DnD. The sneak-peeks and teasers look fantastic! Can't wait to play.

ooooooh I wonder if we can get the monkey grip and improved monkey grip feats with this class. For those of you who don't know, monkey grip is a feat from the 3.5 rules that allow a player to wield a 2 handed weapon as though it were a 1 handed weapon in their main hand and a 1 handed weapon or shield in the off hand. The improved version allows you to wield another 2 handed weapon in your off hand as if it were a 1 handed weapon.
silver44sword @ Mar 19th, 2013 8:51PM
Have you tried DDO? It is actually quite close to PnP. As a DM and player I've been involved in PnP AD
silver44sword @ Mar 19th, 2013 8:28PM
"TANK!" Thou keepest seeing such foreign methods of speech, words of mysterious darkness not known in the lands across faerune' for thine indignation I a DM smite thee once and send the to the rattling shackles in thy dungeon for a time whence feel secure that thoust is remedied of such non-sensical intrepidness.
silver44sword @ Mar 19th, 2013 8:19PM

Animations could be more realistic....
glumm66 @ Jan 21st, 2013 8:04PM
Neat video. Unfortunately the animations for the class were created by animators who don't know how a greatsword is used.
shinzel @ Jan 20th, 2013 5:34PM
Damn those ragdoll effects make this look sexy. I do wish that there wasn't a Tazmanian Devil spin attack, though. They always look hopelessly stupid. Otherwise, nice.
amazingproton
If it's anything like their game Champions Online, the abilities will all be Pick and choose... which means you can select any powers minus the ones you dont want.
bolfam40212 @ Jan 20th, 2013 1:17PM
I wish they would hurry up and either send me a beta key or give a release date. Feels like forever and nothing is happening with this. Any one have any new news since the announcement of the great weapon fighter ages ago?
amazingproton
Relax, the game has already got a big following, they're working up the hype to get even more people into it so that release day will be full of profits. Besides, do you remember what happened with HALO: combat evolved? it was taken back several times prolonging it's release date over a year... But it ended up being a game franchise widely known and played today.
rubbaneck
i got my key from GameSpot.com .. it's easy.. register, sign in ,and they will give you a beta key.
zagbert @ Jan 15th, 2013 9:13PM
Ah well, I guess it's useless to swim against the tide of munchkinism. I guess I'll never be able to play a game where fighters don't have some kind of magical roar that knocks enemies back (who doesn't?!), or where archers can't fire a dozen nuclear-tipped heat-seeking arrows at once. I guess I might as well forget about ever playing a medieval-themed MMO or RPG again and get used to the fact that there will only be Saturday-morning-cartoon themed MMOs and RPGs.
shadow71
Dude really? Reallly? You come to a D
amazingproton
Like i've said in a previous post, if it is anything like CO which is made by the same company making this game, you can fully custom your character to be anyway you want... Dont want magic abilities? dont choose them.. Just like Champions Online, if you wanna be all Melee, then you can be all melee and not be magical either. so quit your whining, and just wait for the game before complaining.
dowieczora
you have to check out Gloria Victis the first medieval mmo look it up on google.
zenzee @ Jan 15th, 2013 12:29PM
My big question is can we main tank (not as well as a Guardian, of course) if the party can't get a real one?
mok33
The PC Gamer article describes the class as a mix of dps and tanking. so perhaps it's more like an off tank? Not sure if it can handle the main tanking duties all on its own in dungeon delves.
somthgelse
Dead is dead, that is my philosophy. Dps 'em to death and you don't have to worry about whether you are a "real" tank or not. In mmo's I've played before, the only time this matters much is in raids where the dps of the mob is so high that non defensive fighters die within seconds. I did not say "shield using" just defensive. Games with monk classes can often use monk types for "real" tanks because they can avoid as well as any real tank. But every game has differences. We will have to see what develops.
