The Devoted Cleric in Neverwinter
By Pinpointerror @ February 8, 2013 at 6:00am

Your adventure party will be challenged with obstacles and challenges that test their mettle. Your resoluteness and will to fight are vital to complete the most difficult tasks. The Forgotten Realms will test the strongest fighters – how will you fare?
Fortunately, an ally is at your side: The Devoted Cleric. This versatile class is capable of handling any situation your party may encounter. In a support role, their heal abilities are unmatched in Neverwinter. In combat roles, the Devoted Cleric can punish foes with the likes of a seasoned Guardian Fighter. Many enemies have wrongly underestimated the power of a Devoted Cleric – with deadly consequences.
The Devoted Cleric can also turn the tide in battle with outstanding area control abilities and single-target holy damage. Furthermore, they can build divine power by dealing damage to enhance skill effects through channeling. Which spells should a devout Cleric focus on? Below are a few of the Devoted Cleric’s abilities.
Lance of Faith is their most reliable attack; few enemies can withstand incoming spears of light. To bend enemies to your will, encase them with the cleric’s alternate at-will Astral Seal power. Your party will recover health by attacking a spellbound enemy! If you prefer to channel your divine powers, press Tab to switch to a different set of divine powers. Punishing Light deals a steady stream of damage while Soothing Light restores health to the cleric and any ally he or she targets. The cleric’s versatility is key to keeping you and your party alive for the next dungeon delve!
There are even more powerful spells at your disposal, but for only the most experienced Devoted Clerics. One of the first encounter abilities available is Daunting Light, an area-of-effect spell that casts a divine column of light to rain down on enemies. Used with divine power, the Devoted Cleric can cast some spells quicker and affect a larger area! One of the first daily powers is Hallowed Ground. The cleric sanctifies an area to reduce incoming damage for allies and buffs their damage output in desperate times in battle – use it wisely!
This is only a small glimpse into the true power of a Devoted Cleric. One must fight alongside them to truly understand how invaluable and necessary they are. Play as a Devoted Cleric or recruit one for your adventures in Neverwinter’s Forgotten Realms today!

What on earth happened to the Cleric? Sure, a Devoted Cleric may focus on healing and ranged spells, but ANY Cleric, at the end of the day, should be able to grab their trusty mace/shield combo and bash some skulls in. The problem I'm noticing is that they tried to base the game on 4th edition, and then disregarded even that. Everything is an at-will, encounter powers can be used more than once per encounter, and daily powers are used more than once per day. This is a bit ridiculous. The game isn't bad, but it's not D
lpsx @ Apr 12th, 2013 7:02AM
only clerics ? in the old forgotten realms games there was Aasimar
ukatox @ Mar 8th, 2013 2:21PM
so far this looks like a Generic MMO Priest Type healer not a D
ukatox
Not a D
mok33
Too bad it doesn't heal all that well.
simplysinister @ Feb 26th, 2013 6:05PM
Gah, way to neuter a cleric. I shouldn't be forced to choose between healing or melee if I want to play as one. Period. 4th edition rules suck so much ass.
borgar2828
agreed
dragonfoe1959 @ Feb 11th, 2013 4:25AM
After playing this class all day Sunday, I must say, much more powerful than I expected, and still has the support mechanics I always want in a Cleric.
princesslune @ Feb 10th, 2013 10:01PM
hands down the best healing mechanics in an MMO to date. i was expecting more RaiderZ style combat and was pleseantly surprised to find that Cryptic had raised the bar even further!
pinipig @ Feb 10th, 2013 2:41AM
Where's the heavy armor, mace/hammer and shield? I want my good old lathander cleric who spams flame strike like there's no tomorrow
borgar2828
see above that is a cleric
lpsx @ Feb 9th, 2013 7:34PM
Nice....i would rather have half human / half orc fighter with 3strength 1constitution -1charisma -1intelligence with rage, bloodlust, resist damage, so i can hunt down clerics......
namodias @ Feb 9th, 2013 6:43PM
Awesome!
emilemo @ Feb 9th, 2013 4:10PM
*sigh* you cant please everybody and thats that. On the introductions for the heavy armor fighter classes, people were asking and hoping for healers. Now on the cleric introduction, people are asking and hoping the devs give them(the fans) what they want - a battle cleric. Just take it one step at a time folks and enjoy what you got in front of you, consumerism has made you weak
smurfinhell
I asked for a battle cleric style archtype. In other words a paladin would suffice. Consumerism is exactly what companies want by the way. They want to make the best game for their audience not the best game they can play together in the office. On the flip side I really enjoy everything we have been shown so far. The great mechanics and fluid combat is a wonderful change of pace from past games. Beta is beta and there is still a lot to add so I guess we'll just have to see.
smurfinhell @ Feb 9th, 2013 3:45PM
I do hope they have a "battle cleric" style archtype in the game. My favorite character class was based upon one. I truly hope they bring the cleric fans what they want in terms of a heavy plated behemoth that can't hit as hard as a fighter or tank as much, but he instead uses his divine abilities to make him significantly tougher than one for a certain amount of time. Please Crpytic give the cleric fans what they want! Sincerely, SmurfInHell
zorcor @ Feb 9th, 2013 3:30PM
Where is my trusty Hammer and shield :)
kubybright @ Feb 9th, 2013 4:46AM
I honestly hope they don't turn this into a p2w game or a pay to get access to content, as a f2p it's better to have no content or class/race restrictions. The cash shop should be purely cosmetic or items for convenience.
borgar2828 @ Feb 9th, 2013 12:11AM
wow this is so not a cleric holy mage maybe
phosphorous2
This is a devoted cleric. A class taken directly from Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition. Wields a holy symbol and uses ranged divine attacks. Also shut up, idiot. http://dnd4.wikia.com/wiki/Cleric
borgar2828

mok33
He's on vacation.
asmodeeux @ Feb 8th, 2013 11:56AM
5 minutes to go.
phoenix970 @ Feb 8th, 2013 11:45AM
i am waiting for them to bring out a wizard focusing on damage/ destruction i prefer it than a wizard who controls
mattsyco
In 4th edition, Wizards are all about control abilities and area attacks. Sorcerers are the focused damage dealers. I personally hope that these guys can eventually get all the classes in the 3 player handbooks into the game. I love the Valorous Bard
drizzt272 @ Feb 8th, 2013 10:56AM
Are you suppose to get a email? because I have a beta key that I activated, and I didn't get a email.
mok33
How did you get your beta key? Founders? PC Gamer? PAX?
drizzt272
I got my gamekey from pc gamer
mok33
PC Gamer beta keys are part of the pool of betas that have not been announced yet. You will get in eventually. There's a post on the forums that keeps that info up to date.
drizzt272
