First Beta Weekend an Ongoing Success!
By TrailTurtle @ February 10, 2013 at 11:31am

It's been a huge weekend for Neverwinter, with the first of our Beta Weekends and the official announcement of the Devoted Cleric. Check out some highlights of the press coverage!
Total Biscuit and the Cynical Brit team had a run through the Cloak Tower, one of the early dungeons that heroes will be able to adventure in. They're joined by Lead Designer Zeke Sparkes, and they talked about everything from the lore to how differently each class plays.
Want to see it all? Bill Murphy of MMORPG.com starts with a just-made character and doesn't stop for two hours. Bill also had an in-depth review on playing as the Devoted Cleric, calling it "the most fun I've had being a healer ever." Check out the gameplay video and read his Devoted Cleric review.
It looks like Massively was impressed by Neverwinter's expansive character creation setup. They've made, not one, but six videos – half an hour of footage – showcasing all the options for bringing your hero to life!
We're humbled and grateful that you've all enjoyed the beta weekend so far, heroes, and more than a little excited for the next two beta weekends. This beta weekend continues until midnight tonight (Pacific); if you haven't already gotten in-game, visit our Founder's Pack page to get your guaranteed access to all three beta weekends!

Man these game play vids make me drool. In my little circle of friends I was the first to find out about NWO. I stumbled upon it to settle an argument about a 4th edition DnD MMO and if one was in development. It is amazing how little people know about this game. The guy I was arguing with is a WotC rep that DM's games at huge gaming conventions and he was clueless. Anyhow I kind of went to sleep on it since a month or so ago there was not much to do other than sign up for beta. After watching these vids I could not help but to spend the money to be a founder and get beta access for the two remaining weekends. I am so excited about playing a 4th edition MMO. I have played pen and paper DnD since the mid 80's and played MMOs since Ultima Online. This game is exactly what I have been looking for. Something that focuses on the encounter and story line leading up to it instead of some weird puzzle game that makes you watch rows upon rows of cool downs. I particularly love the feat system where you can custom build your character to add complexity, depth, and flavor. When most MMO's are going into the lets make this so simple that a dumb monkey can play it, NWO seems to strike a nice balance between streamlining, complex character development, fast paced action, and a rich and flavorful gaming environment.

Wow did 4e get rid of all the weapons? Its a good game so far, but its non DnD dos not feel like it at all not sure what that junk the cleric use as a weapon but omg its is ugly, sad i love playing a healer but i wont in this game till they get rid of that or get new weapns for the cleric to use. Some one bring back the old AOL Neverwinter now that was a DnD game.......
fenris222
I liked the cleric weapon, sick of the usually staff, hammer same old same old
deadmanswrath
Its called a holy symbol, you have to use one to channel your abilities. Go check out some fourth edition before you just post things please.

Someone did bring back the old AOL Neverwinter. It's called ForgottenWorld.

Awesome beta...can't wait for the next "Beta Weekend"
skamfullt @ Feb 12th, 2013 9:49AM
So, will the game be out after like 2 weeks? since there's only 2 more beta weekends. ( I guess weekends mean an entire week? lol )
elihu1
No, that's it for this month the next Beta test weekend will be March 8-10.
kharzon @ Feb 11th, 2013 11:14PM
Don't feel jipped. I preordered TL2 though PW to get beta access and never got it ;) So far, PW has just been another greedy company which means Neverwinter is going the way of STO and CO. Not very far. Moving along.

veltor1234 @ Feb 11th, 2013 6:12PM
i didn't get a chance to play but i watched hours of live stream in the evenings after work... game looked very promising... just hope they dont go all action and forget to add some real depth... i guess thats where the player built content will have a chance to shine... c ya all in game:)
ebonogi @ Feb 11th, 2013 6:02PM
I myself enjoyed the beta immensely. It was just like 4th edition but for some reason it seemed to flow better as a video game instead of PnP. The cleric was a blast and the rogue was a total little damage machine. If you go into this game with any kind of expectation that it will play like another you WILL be disappointed. I liked the mechanics a lot. I was able to concentrate on the battle itself and not have to look at my HUD. It felt natural. As far as people trying to compare this to DDO, dont. They are two separate games that only share the DND universe together. There is great things about both games, but they are two different worlds, two different styles and frankly two different games. The game style is amazing. it is not realistic yet not too cartoony like WoW either. it is a nice cross. to me it looks like GW2's style. My hope is that they will have more choices for the character generator. As it is now they are severely lacking compared to all other Cryptic games.
mordinkanen @ Feb 11th, 2013 5:32PM
The question I have is (well 2 questions). 1) Is there going to be open beta testing for this and when will you open it up to server stress testing and 2) Why are you charging people $200 for closed beta. Sure many of us love D
vankillian @ Feb 11th, 2013 5:21PM
yeah...I had a great freakin time w/ this beta.....its going to be a long 30 days!
radzarwizard @ Feb 11th, 2013 3:33PM
I had a lot of fun. can't wait to play my Drow. Thank you for letting me play the Beta, Iv tried to get into a lot of beta testing, for games I knew i was going to buy, and was never chosen. So thank you. As a paying customer and not just some TROLL looking for a free ride. I hope more developers' will follow your lead.
dragunlaw99 @ Feb 11th, 2013 3:27PM
Will the control wizard be in the next Beta weekend or will we have to wait for launch. THe game was great I felt as if everything was perfect...except finding that mailbox
targo29 @ Feb 11th, 2013 2:52PM
too bad beta access has to be bought.Think it's bs that people have to pay pwe money.when beta testing is doing them a favor.it used to be companies paid QA testers that were on staff to do the beta testing not just alpha. And now pwe is saving a ton of money by having players play the beta and give then feedback that may or may not be listened to.and they want people to pay them for beta access.and worst of all wanting 60 or 200 dollars for beta access.sorry but no way on god's green earth am I going to pay that much for what is still an unfinished product.that's like paying my neighbor to repave his driveway for him.if the founders pack were more reasonable in price and only contained in game items for when the game launchs then maybe.but for 200 bucks i better get some real world swag like a soundtrack and some kind of t-shirt or collectable.this is the kind of stuff that makes me fear this game will become aother pay to win type game.i get cryptic isn't the one making the choice to charge players for beta access.but i see pwe screwing this up for cryptic after launch.
musictechgeek @ Feb 11th, 2013 2:12PM
LOVE THIS GAME!!! I can't tell you how excited I was when I logged into Neverwinter this weekend. I was blown away. The graphics and details are much better looking then what has been shown in the videos. The game play was fun and since I play D
trs31 @ Feb 11th, 2013 2:00PM
I do worry that there is nothing but glowing praise for the game here when there are a significant amount of threats in the beta forums expressing major concerns about how the game is. The lack of any real adherence to the D
raithias @ Feb 11th, 2013 1:59PM
I loved what I got to see and do so far in Neverwinter this past weekend! I'm a refugee from CoH, and Champions Online has been one of my two homes since the world lost CoH. The other one has been TERA Online. I have to say that the action combat in NW is reminescent of TERA. The world is brought to life by stunning graphics. As a long-time fan of anything Forgotten Realms, NW has really reawakened my interest - today I started rereading "Homeland: The Legend of Drizzt" and hope to make it to the latest novels before NW goes live. As you may have guessed, I jumped at the chance to have a "Menzoberranzan Renegade" and a black panther companion in NW, and am really looking forward to seeing what that will be like. This go around, I only made it to level 8 or so on the rogue and the cleric. I'm hoping that as spellcasters advance in level, the player really gets some of the sense of having to choose and prepare a selection of different spells in advance rather than having just only a few key abilities that are constantly used. I can't wait to the next beta weekend - until then, I'll be fighting crime in Millennium City, so Perfect World and Cryptic, please, PLEASE don't forget Champions Online while your focus is on nights and days in Neverwinter! :-)
quodon @ Feb 11th, 2013 1:28PM
I had an excellent time playing a devoted cleric. The visuals were stunning, the action was fast from the moment I started playing. I sincerely look forward to more great content to include more classes and races. I got kicked from the server a few times, but it is beta and I expected some bumps. The enchantments for items was a little confusing at first, but once I actually read how that worked, the rest fell into place nicely. If there was one regret, it is not being able to go past level 30. To me that is a good thing because it means I was still engaged in the content and wanted MOAR!!! :-)
loinofbeef1 @ Feb 11th, 2013 12:51PM
Thanks for having a lifted NDA on the weekend. I had my first ever try at streaming. Had heaps of fun and got to share the experience with others.
yters @ Feb 11th, 2013 12:32PM
Hi there everybody. Iam to some people one of the idiots that did spend €200 to buy my way in. The beta weekend was great, the game is great, no mmajor F ups and all runs very smooth. So BIG compliments there ! Now why does everybody keep talking about the founder being to expensive. Like if you dont wanna spend that kind of money on eletronic items then DONT its a FREE TO PLAY and if some of use do wanna spend there money on it let them. Why am i stupid for doing so i like it i like the items its worth it for me. Nobody is making you buy the founder expansion. You can play the same game without the items FTP ! So pls let us buy it and stop wheening about it. I dont complain pleople spending thousands of dollars just to lay on a beach for three weekes do i. Txs. See you all in game its really great !
skwirsky @ Feb 11th, 2013 12:22PM
The game rocks!!!!!! The graphics and detail are awesome. I'm worried this one may hook me more than WOW did back in the begining. Only got to play the rouge but it was so fun. I don't know how I'm going to make it till the next Beta. Cryptic thank you for putting out a K A game. My friend has been talking about this game for a year and you nailed it.
ton1973 @ Feb 11th, 2013 12:12PM
